First entry of my band weebly! Band Goals for my 2016-2017 year. To get the exact goals, I honestly don't remember. But I do have several goals for my junior year. One of the goals I do have is to have a stronger range and be more consistent with said range. Another goal, I want to be better at rhythm and become better at sight reading, or even analyzing music faster and easier. Finally, I want to be stronger playing the notes I already know even more. Like having faster fingers and keeping tempo, being able to skip octaves, and stronger noise.
The pretest was pretty easy from knowledge over the past years of what I've learned. The hardest part was probably the scales. I had a feeling about what they were but to get the exact everything, I had no idea.

9/11 Performance- I wasn't at the performance last year, so I wouldn't know how we improved from last years, "horrible unspeakable performance." I would've liked the music to be a little more intense or challenging, but to start out with two weeks practice and brand new freshmen, the choice was smart. The music was very smooth going, we really didn't have any problems out of the norm from our usual first playing. When we performed with the choir, no one stuck out too much, the tempo didn't go erratic, it did feel slightly boring, but a fun performance isn't always what we can do.
Major and Minor Scales- I am not the greatest at remembering the scales, and I used to know how to figure them out on my own, but I don't remember. Learning the scales now are a lot easier from the way we have been learning them. I can do the transposition easily, but the major to minor, especially the name change, I can't do it as well in my head as easily or as fast as the others. I also remember there are harmonic and melodic minor scales.

First Playing Attempts
Rejoice The Season!- First attempt at playing, I sight read pretty well. The key signature didn't contain any flats or sharps which helped out a bunch. The tempo scares me, but it'll be easier to break them down and speed them up again. I'm really excited to get them up to speed with all correct notes. I am sooooo confused on how to play measure 12 and the speed its supposed to go. Measure 73 is really exciting to play lower notes. No notes really scare me, there's a random high D that I'm not used to playing so quick, but I am prepared for getting it and playing it easily. The range stays mainly over the break which my comfort zone at this point. There's several rhythms I am not used to as much, but they match with tempo.
How The Grinch Stole Christmas Concert Medley- First time playing it wasn't as bad as I expected. The key signature was plain, meaning we were in the key of C. Measure 22 was hard to understand the rhythm and was quicker than anticipated. Halfway through the song I forgot that I was playing second clarinet it all felt so lively and pretty. I love the melody at 31, the rhythm was still a little off but it was really fun.The eighth notes were the trickiest. I think my favorite part is measure 60, it sounds amazing and so sweet. The song seemed to flow really well and keeping up a quick tempo seemed easier than normal. Even though I had no note difficulties, it still feels like a strong piece that really can have dynamic means. The band stayed together pretty well for the beginning and ending parts.
Once in Royal David's City- The song felt like it needed a slower tempo, but keeping it at a decent speed made it even more smooth. We played in the key of F, only one flat which is what I am more used to playing. There are a lot of runs, but they were never super high or super low. The time signature kept changing at measures 13 through 20, which was a tad hard to completely stick with. Measure seven is a really sweet measure and sounds so pleasing. Rhythm at measure 43 then measures 49-52 were definitely off tempo, I didn't quite understand how it went until the very end of the runs. The second time the time signatures changed, I played it a little better, but definitely not up to par. Throughout the song I have three key changes, from F to G to C. one flat, one sharp, to nothing at all. I had them previously marked, but wasn't ready for every single one to pass though, so I missed a couple accidentals. The band seemed to really stay together during this song.
Christmas Eve Sarajevo 12/24- This was the song I was most excited to play. I love the Trans-siberian Orchestra and the songs they make are amazing and very creative. This specific song was my very first one I ever listened from the Orchestra. The beginning at first did seem to throw me with the rhythm, before hearing the tempo at all. The runs in the later measures, starting at 47 and continuing on. At measure 55 then, the rhythm seemed interesting, and would need to be written out. In the later measures, the melody later in the measures sound so light and pretty. When we revisit the ascending runs again had a little more difficulty with the higher notes, and with the tempo. The triplet runs toward the end of the song really freaked me out, because I wasn't sure how well I could try to get them within the tempo we could establish. Hopefully by breaking down the song into sections and slowing the tempo down, the song should be playable pretty quickly.
Smart music scale scores (All)- 100%
The scales were all pretty easy to play and remember. The hardest part about them all, was the Ab scale. I forgot about the Bb going up, and was completely turned around for the rest of the scale, so I redid it, earning that 100%. Remembering the scales is pretty easy, as along as I go through it note by note for the accidentals. The time it takes me to transpose from my concert name to my tonic/key has definitely improved. Getting into the bigger flat/sharp keys, like Db and soon Gb, A, and E will be a little harder to remember all of the accidentals in the first part, but once I repeatedly play them or write them out, they will be way easier to learn and remember compared to the ones I have already learned. Major to minor also takes awhile, counting up the six notes isn't as quick as I would like it to be on a normal basis. After learning about the trick in AP, I should be able to catch onto them a tad faster than I would have normally. The hardest part about learning the new scales will be remembering the difference of all the scales and going from major to minor with the many many accidentals.
🎺PEP BAND🎷
I am not sure how many exactly games I went to, but I believe I went to all of them. I missed parts of two because I was playing, but made it up by playing the second game. I believe I should get one of the best grades because I played at pep band even if I'd rather go home and sleep everything off, or if I was dead tired from everything that day before. I never went home on pep band days either. I am one of the only people who knows how to play the full songs without messing up notes and completely took down Lady Gaga all on my own. The volunteer games are a lot more relaxed and fun to play because we can play whatever we want, especially with the alumni.
I wish more people got into the pep band as much as some other people. A lot of our songs people enjoy the beat and it can really bring more spirit to the games. Some parents were complaining about how much room the band takes when we play, and its not even that much space to begin with.
My top 3 pep bands songs, whether to play or listen to probably are; I Get Around, 25 or 6 to 4, and Seven Nation Army. They all have realy nice beats with all songs and they aren't the toughest of them or the easiest to play. They are the songs that can get everyone moving and involve everyone to make the songs well sounding. They are anytime playing and not as many people complain about these songs.
My bottom three songs include the Party Jams; All I do is win, Party Rock Anthem, and two others, the
